[maxgallery name=”299-fremont-06-2016″]I’ll have to admit, I’ve warmed up to you Solaire. When they released your architectural renderings during the planning phases, I wasn’t enthralled with your rectangular profile and busy windowed facade. But please don’t feel bad. There was nothing wrong with your straight and orderly stature, other than being fairly boring and conventional. And those novel sky parks, which undoubtedly would offer great outdoor views, seemed to disrupt your overall form with their jutting floor decks. You’d be better fit among the touristy high-rises in Miami Beach than the gritty industrial streets of SoMa, I once mused. The area (and the city overall) needed a more contemporary look that stressed attitude, daringness, and form over function. I know it was superficial to judge you based on looks and not appreciate your inner beauty. A reinforced concrete frame and 409 homes showed inner strength, stability, and willingness to accommodate more folks in a housing starved city. As is often the case in life, it’s all about the looks.

Standing there dressed in polished granite cladding, you exuded a luxurious tone more like a richly appointed Cadillac sedan than a racy Bugatti coupe. Sure your footprint and overall shape are still boxy but elements such as emerald tinted windows and lustrous cladding give you an air of quality and richness. And though your friend 280 Beale may be skinned in lower quality materials, she complements your design and further emphasizes your high style.

P.S. I’ll say hi from time to time while checking out 222 Beale, your nearby all affordable friend which has yet to break ground.
