Having broken ground in the spring of 2012, Avant Housing is pursuing LEED Gold status as it wraps up construction of the residential complex in the heart of SoMa. The two buildings at 900 Folsom Street are nearing completion as most of the multicolored exterior panels have been hung and interior work has started on the doors and curtain walls. The exterior facade, with the offset protruding porches, multicolored panels, and varying heights lends to a heterogeneous and more unconventional appearance. Divided by an alley way, the buildings sit on a sprawling 56,000 sq ft of land and contain 282 rental units and 5,000 square feet of retail space. The anticipated increase in population and commerce density will further energize the gentrifying area and supply the upcoming nearby Central Subway T line with additional passengers. Designed by Architecture International, the new buildings will be available for lease in the spring of this year.
