As the two underground boring machines (TBMs) continue the trek north beneath Stockton Street, crews above ground are busy working on utility relocation, soil stabilization and station excavation. From King Street to Washington Square Park, we recently walked the length of the new subway path to witness current activities and gauge progress relative to an early walk in January. Compared to the Yerba Buena Station, there were notable changes at the Chinatown station where excavation preparation and shoring system installation are well underway. In North Beach, the TBM extraction trench has now been completely unearthed and laid with a concrete bottom mat. Excluding recent developments for a Fisherman’s Wharf extension, the new subway line is expected to enter service at the start of 2019.
