The night begun with music band FourPlay String Quartet playing an eclectic mix of music followed by Gaiman’s recital of several interesting short stories. The evening’s pinnacle came in the second half where Gaiman read his novelette The Truth is a Cave in the Black Mountains set against sound affects, music, and large projected illustrations by Eddie Campbell. Representing a dwarf’s journey to find the truth, the story’s captivating and meaningful qualities were enhanced by Gaiman’s mellow voice, clear dictation, and effective inflections. Gaiman’s likable personality complemented the engaging storytelling performance and made for a refreshing and intelligent experience.
