[maxgallery name=”winners-and-losers-hits-and-misses-best-and-worst-restaurant-summary”]Wild game meats, open wood fires, indoor urban golf, and rooftop bars. It has been an adventure exploring the city’s new restaurants in the past year. Many executed their visions flawlessly, offering exceptional food, service, and overall dining experiences. Other establishments fell short on their promise, delivering dishes that echoed a lack of passion, effort, or focus. Below is our list of top restaurants that astoundingly impressed and profoundly disappointed.
Game (Nob Hill) [usr 5]
Game scored a home run with a flawless Michelin star quality dining adventure.
Verbena (Russian Hill) [usr 4.5]
Fresh locally sourced vegetables, unique ingredients, and a creative touch made for a memorable Verbena experience.
Pabu (FiDi) [usr 4.5]
Pabu awakens FiDi with a dynamic atmosphere, killer smoked chicken wings, and Japanese influenced entrees.
Dirty Habit (SoMa) [usr 4.5]
Dirty Habit’s smooth complex cocktails, intelligent staff, hearty high quality meals, and rooftop setting makes this restaurant an ideal destination for after work locals.
Plin (The Mission) [usr 4]
Alexander Alioto offers exceptional Italian cuisine with simplicity, freshness, and passion.
Urban Putt (The Mission) [usr 1]
Due to an exceedingly poor experience in Urban Putt’s restaurant, we decided to only review the establishment’s clever indoor miniature golf course.
The Palm House (Cow Hollow) [usr 2]
With a large Caribbean inspired bar, The Palm House will attract the bar hopping crowd on Union Street. Unfortunately, we were turned off by the low quality drinks, over-salted meats, and a dry store bought cake.
Trou Normand (SoMa) [usr 2.5]
Trou Normand is executing a solid charcuterie program with their fresh homemade meats. However, our multiple dining experiences were marred by uninspiring dishes, improperly cooked ingredients, and low quality oils.
The Square (North Beach) [usr 2.5]
A fresh homemade dessert could not make up for a meal blemished by dry lifeless meats, poorly executed accompaniments, and mediocre drinks.
The Coachman (SoMa) [usr 2.5]
Our experience was plagued with heavy oils, store bought ingredients, and a tasteless burnt Yorkshire pudding.
