In order to support the tower’s tremendous weight (measuring in the hundreds of thousands of tons) and withstand any future earthquakes, a deep-rooted robust foundation is being created. The foundation includes 300 foot piles driven deep into the subterranean bedrock and a thick concrete floor mat. Peeking into the 1.1 acre site showed a cavernous 70 foot trench supported by a perimeter concrete slurry wall and stacks of tubular steel cross braces. On the bottom laid a thick concrete floor (which required 14,000 cubic yards of concrete) strewn with equipment and construction materials. Based on current progress and the early 2018 projected completion date, the tower should start going vertical soon with work beginning on the basement floors.
When completed, the skyscraper will support 1.37 million sq. feet of office space, 10,600 sq. feet of retail space, 28,300 square feet of open area accessible to the public, and 39,370 sq. feet of subterranean parking.
