[maxgallery name=”sf-marin-food-bank”]SF-Marin Food Bank is a local food bank organization that through donations, volunteer work, and a large food delivery network, offers meals to low income families and individuals. Curious about the organization and its role in the San Francisco community, we recently visited and volunteered our time at the food bank’s Potrero Hill location. The tasks in our two hour stay included packing pears and bagging measured quantities of cereal. These activities promoted teamwork, sparked conversations, and promoted feelings of goodwill among the volunteers. Our only issue with the experience was helping send out sugary frosted flakes cereal to families and their children when many less sweet breakfast alternatives are available such as oats and granola. Despite this gripe, we found the volunteering effort to be uplifting and very positive.
With their two food banks in Marin County and San Francisco, SF-Marin Food Bank delivers more than 47 million pounds of food to over 225,000 people every year. Besides their food delivery pantry network, they also host a series of fund raisers, nutrition classes, dinners, and other food related activities.
