[maxgallery name=”tree-spire-main”]A towering totem of nature’s strength, a symbol of humanity’s constant meddling in the natural world, or an unsightly horn protruding out of the Presidio grounds. Andy Goldsworthy’s Spire invokes many interpretations depending on your knowledge, experience, and ultimately perspective. Built out of felled cypress trees wrought from Presidio Trust’s “reforestation” campaigns, the conical monolithic art sculpture stands firmly with a 15 foot thick base and rises with a waning form 90 feet high. It doesn’t match the might of a giant redwood tree but, nonetheless, is imposing up-close and stands out among the nearby crowd of tree saplings.
